What's Happening Near You: May 20 – June 20, 2026
Spring is sliding into summer across the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies, and the next month is absolutely packed with rodeos, music festivals, car shows, farmers markets, whitewater spectacles, and small-town celebrations. Whether you're a few hours from Missoula, heading into the Flathead, or based in Spokane or Coeur d'Alene, here's your guide to what's coming up.
FLATHEAD VALLEY
The Swan River's Wild Mile Whitewater Festival runs May 22–24 in Bigfork, where the last stretch of the Swan River dumps into Bigfork Bay over a roaring Class IV section. Spectators get front-row seats to some of the best whitewater action in northwest Montana — and it doesn't cost a thing to watch. This one's a cherished local tradition and worth making the drive for.
Glacier Range Riders baseball is back at the ballpark through the end of August, with the season already underway. Grab the family for a summer evening under big sky at the Flathead Valley's own professional baseball club, playing home games May 19 through August 30.
Rodeo fans won't want to miss the Montana State High School Rodeo Finals, which have landed in Kalispell for the next four years. June 8–13 at Majestic Valley Arena, roughly 200 of Montana's top young rodeo athletes will compete in everything from bronc riding to barrel racing and team roping. The top four finishers in each event earn the right to represent Montana at the National High School Rodeo Finals in Rock Springs, Wyoming. This is a great chance to watch future professionals before they hit the big stage.
Farmers markets are spinning back up as well. The Whitefish market typically runs Tuesday evenings starting around May 31, and Bigfork's market returns Wednesday afternoons starting mid-May — both running through the fall.
MISSOULA AREA
The Garden City has a monster month ahead. Missoula Pride runs June 19–20, bringing the community together for a weekend of celebration and events around downtown.
And that same weekend, the Zootown Music Festival takes over the Missoula County Fairgrounds on June 19 and 20 for its second annual run — and the lineup is something special. Headliners include The Lumineers and The Chicks, with support from Tedeschi Trucks Band, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, The Head and The Heart, Trampled by Turtles, and more than 20 artists total across two stages.
Before the festival weekend, keep an eye on the KettleHouse Amphitheater calendar in Bonner — the outdoor season gets rolling with a show on Memorial Day, May 25.
Downtown Missoula continues its regular programming throughout the month, including the Downtown Dialogues series. The Missoula County Fairgrounds also hosts the Five Valley Kennel Club show May 26 through June 1.
BITTERROOT VALLEY
The Bitterroot really hits its stride in June, and this year is no different. Farmers markets are running on Saturday mornings through mid-October in Hamilton, Stevensville, Florence, and Darby — some of the best places in Montana to meet local growers and grab fresh produce alongside handmade crafts and artisan goods.
The main event for many in the valley this month is Montana Mule Days, held June 12–14 at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds in Hamilton. Montana's largest mule and donkey show features over 150 classes ranging from Pee Wee and youth divisions to adult competition, chariot racing, gymkhana, cattle events, big hitches, and performance classes. Admission runs $7 per day or $15 for a weekend pass, with kids six and under free. It's a genuine slice of Montana's working-ranch culture and an absolute hit with families.
The Bitterroot Discovery Children's Museum is also running a Children's Art Show fundraiser through the period, with 24 young artists selected to have their work featured in a live auction at the Communi-TEA Party on June 20.
HELENA AREA
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band makes a stop at the Helena Civic Center on June 11 at 7:30 p.m. as part of their All the Good Times: The Farewell Tour — a bittersweet send-off for a band that has been playing American roots music for nearly 60 years.
Helena's most iconic summer concert series kicks off. Alive at Five returns on Wednesday, June 17, launching what will be a weekly run of free outdoor concerts through August 19. The series has been a community staple for over two decades, bringing families, neighbors, and food truck fans together on warm Wednesday evenings for live music in downtown Helena. It's one of those events that defines summer in the Queen City of the Rockies — bring a lawn chair, grab something to eat, and enjoy the company.
Downtown Helena's Last Chance Gulch and surrounding neighborhoods are active throughout the month with live music at local spots including Brothers Tapworks, Ten Mile Creek Brewery, Mt. Ascension Brewing, and the Lewis & Clark Taproom. The Helena Farmers Market runs Saturdays through mid-October, spanning two blocks in the downtown core with local growers, food vendors, and artisans.
SPOKANE AREA
The 5th Annual Lilac City Brewfest at GESA Pavilion in Riverfront Park on May 16 will bring local breweries, live music, and outdoor energy to downtown Spokane.
The Spokane Marathon and Half Marathon take place May 17, with scenic 10K and 5K options following the Centennial Trail.
Riverfront Park kicks off its summer Food Truck Tuesdays on June 2, with rotating local food trucks setting up from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday through August.
The Lilac City Comicon lands at the Spokane Convention Center June 6–7, celebrating 20 years in 2026 with special guest actors, professional comic creators, gaming, and an all-ages atmosphere. This is the largest comic book and pop culture show in Eastern Washington.
The Knitting Factory and The District have a packed music calendar through June 20, including Josiah and the Bonnevilles on May 31, and shows running nearly every weekend night. The Spokane Indians baseball season continues at Avista Stadium through the summer.
COEUR D'ALENE AREA
North Idaho's crown jewel of a town is getting lively this month. The Coeur d'Alene Marathon Presented by ICCU takes place May 24, with runners gathering at 420 E Front Ave starting at 5:30 a.m. — a beautiful course through one of the Pacific Northwest's most scenic small cities.
The Coeur d'Alene Resort is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, with events and special programming throughout the season. The resort's nightly Sunset Dinner Cruise on Lake Coeur d'Alene is a perennial favorite — a two-hour dinner on the water with views of the lake and mountains.
The biggest event of the month for CDA is the 35th Annual Car d'Lane, held June 19–20 in downtown Coeur d'Alene. This is the largest classic car cruise in all of North Idaho. Friday evening, June 19, the cruise runs through downtown 6–8:30 p.m. with hundreds of vehicles rolling through for spectators lining the streets. Saturday, June 20, the full show runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with People's Choice Voting, a Poker Walk through downtown businesses, a Young Builders Alley, and more.
The 5th Street Farmers Market in downtown Coeur d'Alene is running through the season, with emphasis on local growers and producers, street food, craft vendors, and live music — a great Saturday morning ritual.
Whether you're planning a road trip or looking for something close to home, the region from the Bitterroot to the Idaho Panhandle has no shortage of reasons to get out this month.
