What's Happening Near You Through October 2026
Fall is arriving across the Northern Rockies and Inland Northwest, and the calendar through October has plenty to offer — Celtic games, Oktoberfests, county fairs, big concerts, Renaissance faires, and harvest celebrations. Here's your guide.
FLATHEAD VALLEY
The 12th Annual Flathead Celtic Festival takes over Centennial Farm in Kalispell September 11–12 with Highland Games, pipe and drum bands, Irish and Scottish dancing, clan tents, food trucks, and a beer garden. Free admission; $5 parking donation requested.
The Whitefish Songwriter Festival runs September 18–20, filling bars, restaurants, and intimate stages around Whitefish with 20-plus original songwriters performing 30-plus shows — one of the more unique music events of the fall season.
Rob Schneider plays the Wachholz College Center in Kalispell September 17, and Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox follows on September 19.
Then Whitefish's Great Northwest Oktoberfest takes over Depot Park for two weekends — October 1–3 and October 8–10. Thursdays and Fridays run 5–11 p.m., Saturdays noon–11 p.m. Entertainment includes Europa, the Bavarian Echoes, and local acts. Nightly stein-holding and log-sawing contests, Beer Barrel Races, and the Montana State Stein-Holding Championships on October 10 round it out. Admission is $10 at the gate; October 1 is free Locals Night for Flathead County residents. The Kalispell and Bigfork farmers markets continue through mid-October.
MISSOULA AREA
The KettleHouse Amphitheater closes its outdoor season with Liz Phair and Sleater-Kinney on September 12 and Killswitch Engage on September 25.
GermanFest comes to Caras Park October 3–4, bringing Oktoberfest energy to the Clark Fork riverbank with German food, beer, and live music.
The Montana Book Festival arrives in mid-October, bringing 70-plus authors from across the West for three days of readings, panels, signings, and only-in-Missoula events like Pie and Whiskey and Erotic Fan Fiction. Check montanabookfestival.org for the 2026 schedule.
The Indigenous Peoples' Day Powwow at Caras Park on October 12 is a free community gathering honoring Indigenous culture. UM Grizzlies football continues at Washington-Grizzly Stadium through October.
BITTERROOT VALLEY
The Ravalli County Fair runs September 3–6 in Hamilton — the valley's biggest annual event, drawing 20,000 visitors with rodeo, 4-H exhibits, livestock, carnival, live music, and a parade through downtown Wednesday morning. Low gate admission, free parking, free arena events.
The McIntosh Apple Day Festival at the Ravalli County Museum celebrates the harvest with vendors, live music, and the famous Biggest Bake Sale Under the Big Sky. Check the museum calendar for the October date. Saturday farmers markets continue through mid-October in Hamilton, Stevensville, Florence, and Darby.
HELENA / CENTRAL MONTANA
The 6th Annual Helena SeptemberFest takes over downtown September 11–13 with the theme Gulch Goes Galactic. The weekend combines the Soapbox Derby, the Balloon Sculpture Festival, and the United Way Family Funfest — all free. Derby car show Friday evening on the Walking Mall, the race down 6th Avenue on Saturday, and giant custom balloon sculptures filling downtown all weekend.
In October, Jerry Seinfeld plays the Helena Civic Center on October 2, and the Black Jacket Symphony performs Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet in full at the Civic Center on October 28. The Helena Fall Art Walk celebrates local artists downtown, and the Parade of Homes runs October 3–4. Carroll College Fighting Saints football continues at Nelson Stadium through the month.
SPOKANE AREA
Valleyfest takes place in late September in Spokane Valley, opening with the Hearts of Gold Parade on Sprague Avenue and spreading across Mirabeau Point Park and CenterPlace — a free community celebration.
The Spokane Renaissance Faire takes over the Spokane County Fairgrounds at 404 N. Havana Street in Spokane Valley on October 3–4. With 250-plus vendors, jousting, armored combat, artisan goods, and medieval entertainment, it's one of the biggest faires in the Pacific Northwest. Knightfall evening programming runs both Friday and Saturday nights for 21-plus attendees, featuring The Wellermen on Friday night.
The Spokane Symphony opens its fall season at the Martin Woldson Theatre at The Fox, and the Spokane Whiskey Festival lands at the Spokane Valley Event Center on October 23.
COEUR D'ALENE AREA
Downtown CDA Oktoberfest on September 18–19 turns Sherman Avenue into a Bavarian street party with 20-plus local craft beers, bratwurst, pretzels, polka bands, and fall-festival energy.
The Downtown Coeur d'Alene Harvest Market and Apple Palooza arrives October 17 at 5th and Sherman — the last farmers market of the season, with free hayrides, apple tastings, and vendors celebrating the harvest.
The Halloween Hustle Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K runs October 25 starting at Honeysuckle Beach on Hayden Lake — a gorgeous fall course through North Idaho forests and farm country with mountain views. The World Ballet Company brings Swan Lake with a live orchestra to NIC's Schuler Performing Arts Center in October as well.
