Building a Healthy Office
If you are running an office, creating a fantastic and healthy work environment is key to employee retention and successful business.
Whether you’re a CEO, a general manager, or an employee, a healthy office environment is something you strive for. According to Forbes, almost 50% of workers are unhappy with their work and their work environment. Over 50% feel stressed, and 25% have even considered quitting. The job market in the US today is troubling, as it seems like nobody wants to work, while simultaneously being hired for a good job feels impossible. That’s why, if you are running an office, creating a fantastic and healthy work environment is key to employee retention and successful business.
With a few simple tips and tricks, you can get started on revolutionizing your office environment from stressful, unpleasant and lacking motivation. These are just a start, because you can always strive to be better and in turn get more loyalty and commitment from your employees. Alright, let’s get into it!
Balance
Work and life are both vital parts to a fulfilling existence as a human being. They’re also incredibly hard to balance, with the modern day demands and over-stimulation of day-to-day life. This is why it is important for you as an employer to facilitate a healthy work-life balance amongst employees, so they can do their best work for you and feel refreshed and excited when clocking in. Some ways to encourage this are saving any requests or additional work for business hours only, and respecting the boundaries of when employees need that space for life. If possible, offering more paid off days, sick days, mental health days, etc. is a massive pro compared to the work schedule of other jobs.
Open Conversation
Communication is key! We all know this, but it can be easy to forget when facilitating a health office. Creating an environment where your employees feel safe and comfortable coming to you with ideas, concerns, etc. will only ensure that you’re keeping in touch with the pulse of the company. Being able to express themselves to their boss and know that they are heard and respected only encourages better work, and more loyalty from employees. Make sure that there are regular open format and open floor meetings to enable everyone to share their thoughts.
Healthy Lifestyle
Encouraging a healthy lifestyle can be done in many ways. Whether you can collaborate with local wellness companies and brands, offer paid time off, discounts at healthy restaurants or grocery stores, etc. offering employees healthy options and advantages sets your company apart. Instead of burnt out, worn down, sick and unhealthy employees rolling through the door to do half-hearted work, you’ll have healthy, vibrant, excited and passionate employees striving for their best work and loving the company they work for.
Growth Opps
One of the biggest complaints today, and for good reason, is companies that employ people with no chance for growth within the company or reward for the loyalty that companies are asking. When you promise growth and fulfill that promise once the employee shows they’re willing and capable to show loyalty and commitment, you’re creating motivation for others, an excited and motivated premise and rewards system, and a company that is consistently growing and striving for better.
Encourage Creativity
Creativity is at the heart of innovation. When we think an office job, we may have the tendency to picture grey walls and grey day-to-day. However, if you’re running a business, you have the opportunity to be the change you want to see. Opening the floor for conversations, and allowing the imagination to take over how you view the future and what you create as the environment will make your company exciting, innovative, and much more appealing to the best possible employees.
